E. Stewart Jones Hacker Murphy Files Lawsuit for Victim of 104 Jay Street Fire

Suit details negligence, responsibility of property owner in Schenectady fire that claimed four lives

TROY – Attorney James Hacker of E. Stewart Jones Hacker Murphy, LLP announced today the firm has filed suit against Ted Gounaris, Inc. and Ideal Property Services, Inc. following a deadly fire that occurred on March 6 in Schenectady and claimed the lives of four individuals.

The suit has been filed on behalf of a resident of the property located at 104 Jay Street who suffered personal injuries and loss and damage of property as a result of the property owner’s negligent and careless disregard. The owner’s failure to properly maintain and inspect fire alarms and water sprinklers throughout the building, combined with the decision to disable smoke detectors in the common areas, directly resulted in serious personal injury to the client and property damage.

“This incident shows blatant disregard for the safety of individuals who have entrusted an entity with their personal wellbeing,” said James Hacker, Partner, E. Stewart Jones Hacker Murphy, LLP. “It is our goal to ensure our client receives appropriate restitution for this tragedy that could have been prevented. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by the negligence exhibited by this property owner.”

The suit was filed on April 1, 2015 in Schenectady County Court. Mandatory action on the part of the defendants is required within 30 days.
